About the tides at Birch Islands
Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Whiting Bay, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Eastport, Passamaquoddy Bay. Birch Islands sees a mean range of about 16.5 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Maine stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 20.7 ft, comes on October 26, and the smallest, 12.6 ft, on Sunday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 20.5 ft on January 23 and bottom out at −2.0 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Eastport, Passamaquoddy Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Coffins Point, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 27 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Estes Head, Eastport.
Predictions are based on Eastport, Passamaquoddy Bay.
