About the tides at Garnet Point

Garnet Point has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The tide range here is very large, about 19.2 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Maine stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 20.2 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 22.9 ft on August 4, and the lowest is −2.9 ft on August 4.

This is a prediction station. NOAA calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. NOAA measured the tide here in 1985 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Birch Islands, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 41 min later. For tidal currents, see Western Passage, off Frost Ledge.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
