About the tides at Bowdoinham

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.5 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Portland, casco Bay. With a mean range of about 5.5 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is smaller than most Maine stations on this site. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.3 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −1.2 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Portland, casco Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Sturgeon Island, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 34 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Merrymeeting Bay, N of Chops Pass., Kennebec River.

Predictions are based on Portland, casco Bay.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
