About the tides at Cape Henry
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.7 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Duck, Frf Pier. The average range is about 3.1 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most Virginia stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.5 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 4.5 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 2.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 4.5 ft on October 1, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 23.
Cape Henry is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Duck, Frf Pier: highs come about 31 min and lows about 36 min later than there. It also reports wind and air pressure. It was established in 1982. The nearest other station is Broad Bay Canal, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 2 h 28 m later. For tidal currents, see Cape Henry Light, 0.8 n.mi. Nne of.
Predictions are based on Duck, Frf Pier.
