About the tides at Chance
Chance has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The mean range is small, about 1.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Maryland stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 2.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 0.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.9 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.0 ft on January 23.
Chance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel: highs come about 329 min and lows about 357 min later than there.
