About the tides at Comfort Island

Tides at Comfort Island are mostly diurnal: one rise and one fall a day, with a slow change between them. The pattern follows the reference station at South Pass. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.1 ft. Neap tides follow on October 23, when the range shrinks to 0.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.8 ft on October 30, and the lowest is −1.5 ft on January 20.

Comfort Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting South Pass: highs come about 167 min and lows about 134 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1980 to 1982 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Grand Pass, 21 mi away, where high tide comes about 17 min earlier.
