About the tides at Copper Harbor
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Sitka. The tide range here is very large, about 10.2 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. The next spring tides peak on Sunday, with a range of 14.6 ft. Neap tides follow on October 17, when the range shrinks to 5.6 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 15.4 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −3.1 ft on July 5.
Copper Harbor is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sitka: highs come about 10 min and lows about 8 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Sulzer, 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 8 min later. For tidal currents, see Sukkwan Narrows.
Predictions are based on Sitka.
