About the tides at Dinner Point Creek
Dinner Point Creek has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook, Fort Hancock. The mean range is small, about 1.8 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most New Jersey stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on Saturday, with a range of 2.4 ft. Neap tides follow on October 17, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.5 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 23.
Dinner Point Creek is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sandy Hook, Fort Hancock: highs come about 161 min and lows about 197 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Cedar Run, 0.7 mi away, where high tide comes about 31 min earlier.
