About the tides at Westecunk Creek entrance
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.3 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook. The mean range is small, about 2.0 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most New Jersey stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.3 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 2.7 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.7 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.6 ft on January 23.
Westecunk Creek entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sandy Hook: highs come about 120 min and lows about 160 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is West Creek, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min later. For tidal currents, see Manahawkin Drawbridge.
Predictions are based on Sandy Hook.
