About the tides at Divide Head
Divide Head has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Ketchikan. Divide Head sees a mean range of about 12.4 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 18.7 ft, comes on Sunday, and the smallest, 5.6 ft, on October 17. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 18.7 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −4.2 ft on July 5.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Ketchikan, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Lancaster Cove, 9 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min later. For tidal currents, see Cholmondeley Sound entrance.
Predictions are based on Ketchikan.
