About the tides at Eureka

Eureka has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at North Spit, Humboldt Bay. With a mean range of about 5.2 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most California stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.1 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 9.4 ft, comes on October 26, and the smallest, 2.0 ft, on Saturday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 9.3 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −2.3 ft on June 6.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at North Spit, Humboldt Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1980 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Eureka Slough Bridge, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min later. For tidal currents, see North Bay Channel at Samoa Channel.

Predictions are based on North Spit, Humboldt Bay.
