About the tides at Hernando Beach

Hernando Beach has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico. On a typical day the water moves about 2.2 ft between high and low. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 4.2 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 1.8 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.9 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −1.3 ft on December 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1975 to 1976 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Bayport, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 29 min later.
