About the tides at Johnstone Passage

Johnstone Passage has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Yakutat, Yakutat Bay. With a mean range of about 7.5 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 14.4 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 3.2 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 12.9 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −3.1 ft on July 5.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Yakutat, Yakutat Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Yakutat, 3 mi away.

Predictions are based on Yakutat, Yakutat Bay.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
