About the tides at Ragged Point
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.2 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Washington, Potomac River. Water here rises and falls only about 1.3 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.8 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 1.0 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.0 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −0.5 ft on January 24.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Washington, Potomac River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them.
