About the tides at Long Island

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The range is large, about 9.1 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 9.9 ft. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 11.3 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 8.5 ft.
