About the tides at Loring

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 1.6 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Ketchikan. The tide range here is very large, about 13.1 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site.

Loring is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Ketchikan: highs come about 2 min and lows about 6 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Coon Island, 11 mi away. For tidal currents, see Helm Point.
