About the tides at Marion

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.5 ft. On a typical day the water moves about 3.8 ft between high and low. That is smaller than most Massachusetts stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 5.1 ft, comes on October 10, and the smallest, 3.5 ft, on Sunday.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Newport, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1976 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Piney Point, 2 mi away. For tidal currents, see Sippican Harbor.
