About the tides at Michoud Substation
Michoud Substation usually gets one high and one low tide a day, known as a diurnal tide. The pattern follows the reference station at South Pass. Water here rises and falls only about 1.2 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.7 ft, comes tomorrow, and the smallest, 0.2 ft, on October 23. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.4 ft on October 30 and bottom out at −1.2 ft on January 20.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at South Pass, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1982 to 1997 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Martello Castle, 7 mi away, where high tide comes about 37 min earlier.
Predictions are based on South Pass.
