About the tides at Chef Menteur
Chef Menteur usually gets one high and one low tide a day, known as a diurnal tide. The pattern follows the reference station at South Pass. Water here rises and falls only about 1.0 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 1.9 ft on October 30 and bottom out at −1.0 ft on January 20.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at South Pass, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1982 to 1991 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is The Rigolets, 8 mi away, where high tide comes about 31 min earlier.
Predictions are based on South Pass.
Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
