About the tides at New Haven Harbor
New Haven Harbor has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. With a mean range of about 6.2 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most Connecticut stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.7 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.7 ft on September 2 and bottom out at −1.1 ft on January 23.
A live NOAA gauge measures the water here, and predictions are calculated from this station's own records. It also reports water temperature, wind and air pressure. It was established in 1999. The nearest other station is Lighthouse Point, 2 mi away. For tidal currents, see New Haven Harbor, Gateway Terminal Approach.
Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
