About the tides at Newburyport
Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Merrimack River, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The range is large, about 8.1 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 8.8 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 10.8 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 6.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 10.1 ft on November 26, and the lowest is −1.3 ft on January 23.
This is a prediction station. NOAA calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. NOAA measured the tide here from 1989 to 1990 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Salisbury Point, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 17 min later. For tidal currents, see Newburyport, Merrimack River.
