About the tides at Niantic
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. On a typical day the water moves about 2.6 ft between high and low. That is smaller than most Connecticut stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.0 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.3 ft, comes on October 11, and the smallest, 2.5 ft, on Sunday.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at NEW LONDON, State Pier, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1993 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is New London, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 52 min earlier.
