About the tides at Oceanographic Institution

Oceanographic Institution has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. Water here rises and falls only about 1.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.2 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.5 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 1.1 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.0 ft on July 4 and bottom out at −0.6 ft on January 23.
