About the tides at Olympia

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Seattle, Puget Sound. Olympia sees a mean range of about 10.5 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Washington stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 14.6 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 18.7 ft, comes on October 29, and the smallest, 9.7 ft, on Sunday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 16.9 ft on January 25 and bottom out at −4.2 ft on December 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Seattle, Puget Sound, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Budd Inlet, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Budd Inlet Entrance.

Predictions are based on Seattle, Puget Sound.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
