About the tides at Onancock

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Water here rises and falls only about 1.7 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.6 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them.
