About the tides at Onion Key
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Naples. The mean range is small, about 0.6 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 1.0 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 0.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.0 ft on August 31, and the lowest is −0.2 ft on December 24.
Onion Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Naples: highs come about 189 min and lows about 293 min later than there. The nearest other station is Lostmans River entrance, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 2 h 0 m earlier.
