About the tides at Rudee Heights
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Duck, Frf Pier. On a typical day the water moves about 3.3 ft between high and low. That is larger than most Virginia stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.8 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 4.9 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 2.5 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 4.9 ft on October 1 and bottom out at −0.9 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Duck, Frf Pier, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1984 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Lake Rudee, 0.4 mi away. For tidal currents, see Cape Henry Light, 2.2 miles southeast of.
Predictions are based on Duck, Frf Pier.
