About the tides at Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Duck, Frf Pier. On a typical day the water moves about 3.3 ft between high and low. That is larger than most Virginia stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 5.1 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 2.6 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 5.1 ft on October 1 and bottom out at −1.0 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Duck, Frf Pier, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Rudee Inlet, 0.8 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min later. For tidal currents, see Cape Henry Light, 2.2 miles southeast of.

Predictions are based on Duck, Frf Pier.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
