About the tides at Rudee Inlet entrance
Rudee Inlet entrance has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Duck, Frf Pier. The average range is about 3.3 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most Virginia stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 4.8 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 2.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 4.8 ft on October 1, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 23.
Rudee Inlet entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Duck, Frf Pier: highs come about 2 min and lows about 2 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1976 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Rudee Inlet, 0.3 mi away, where high tide comes about 18 min later.
