About the tides at Sawyer Island

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Tracy Arm, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Juneau. The tide range here is very large, about 13.0 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 11, with a range of 19.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 10.0 ft.

Sawyer Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Juneau: highs come about 2 min and lows about 6 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1974 to 2008 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Ford's Terror, 13 mi away, where high tide comes about 45 min later.
