About the tides at Shaw Island

Shaw Island has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Port Townsend, Admiralty Inlet. On a typical day the water moves about 4.7 ft between high and low. That is smaller than most Washington stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 8.4 ft, comes on Wednesday, and the smallest, 3.0 ft, on Sunday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 9.0 ft on December 26 and bottom out at −3.6 ft on July 4.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Port Townsend, Admiralty Inlet, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Orcas, 1 mi away. For tidal currents, see Harney Channel, north of Point Hudson.
