About the tides at Swanson Harbor

Swanson Harbor has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Elfin Cove, Port Althorp. Swanson Harbor sees a mean range of about 12.7 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 15.3 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 19.7 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −3.5 ft on July 5.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Elfin Cove, Port Althorp, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1901 to 1987 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Funter, 9 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min later.
