About the tides at Tchefuncta River

Tchefuncta River usually gets one high and one low tide a day, known as a diurnal tide. The pattern follows the reference station at South Pass. Water here rises and falls only about 0.6 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Louisiana stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.0 ft, comes on Saturday, and the smallest, 0.1 ft, on October 9.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at South Pass, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1982 to 1988 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Bayou BonFouca, 23 mi away, where high tide comes about 24 min earlier.
