About the tides at Belfast
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay. Belfast sees a mean range of about 10.2 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 11.0 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 12.8 ft on August 4 and bottom out at −1.9 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1983 to 1985 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Fort Point, 10 mi away. For tidal currents, see Temple Heights, Nne of, W Penobscot Bay.
Predictions are based on Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay.
