About the tides at Channel entrance

Tides at New Entrance Channel, St. Andrew Bay are mostly diurnal: one rise and one fall a day, with a slow change between them. The pattern follows the reference station at Pensacola, Pensacola Bay. The mean range is small, about 1.2 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. The next spring tides peak on October 30, with a range of 2.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 0.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.0 ft on October 3, and the lowest is −1.0 ft on January 21.

Channel entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Pensacola, Pensacola Bay: highs come about 99 min and lows about 110 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1941 to 1991 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Alligator Bayou, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 52 min later.
