About the tides at Coral Shoal
Coral Shoal has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance. The mean range is small, about 2.0 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 2.7 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.0 ft on September 29, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 23.
Coral Shoal is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance: highs come about 11 min and lows about 37 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1980 to 1981 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Key Biscayne Yacht Club, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 33 min later.
