About the tides at Cuttyhunk

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.4 ft. The average range is about 3.4 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 10, with a range of 4.4 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 3.1 ft.

Cuttyhunk is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Newport: highs come about 80 min and lows about 75 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1976 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Penikese Island, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 18 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Canapitsit Channel.

Predictions are based on Newport.
