About the tides at Gay Head

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.4 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay. On a typical day the water moves about 2.7 ft between high and low. That is smaller than most Massachusetts stations on this site. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 4.1 ft on September 2 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 23.
