About the tides at Excursion Inlet

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Elfin Cove, Port Althorp. Excursion Inlet sees a mean range of about 12.0 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 17.8 ft, comes on October 11, and the smallest, 10.3 ft, on Friday.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Elfin Cove, Port Althorp, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Excursion Inlet Entrance, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 9 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Porpoise Island.
