About the tides at Gerrish Island

Gerrish Island has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The range is large, about 8.5 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 10.8 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 8.1 ft.

Gerrish Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Portland: highs come about 2 min and lows about 3 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1997 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Fort Point, 0.8 mi away, where high tide comes about 11 min later. For tidal currents, see Wood Island, northwest of.

Predictions are based on Portland.
