About the tides at High Bar

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Barnegat Bay, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook. Water here rises and falls only about 0.5 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most New Jersey stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 0.8 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 0.4 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 0.8 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −0.2 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Sandy Hook, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Barnegat Inlet, 0.9 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 10 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Barnegat Inlet.

Predictions are based on Sandy Hook.
