About the tides at Kelp Island Passage
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 1.4 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Ketchikan, Tongass Narrows. Kelp Island Passage sees a mean range of about 11.6 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 17.9 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −4.2 ft on July 5.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Ketchikan, Tongass Narrows, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Morse Cove, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min later. For tidal currents, see Snipe Island.
Predictions are based on Ketchikan, Tongass Narrows.
