About the tides at Niblack Anchorage

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 1.5 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Ketchikan. The tide range here is very large, about 11.9 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 11, with a range of 18.0 ft. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 9.3 ft.

Niblack Anchorage is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Ketchikan: highs come about 3 min and lows about 9 min later than there. The nearest other station is Menefee Anch., 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Moira Sound entrance.
