About the tides at Old Rice Mill
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.4 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. Water here rises and falls only about 1.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most South Carolina stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.8 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 0.3 ft, on Monday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.6 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −2.4 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Dupont, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 35 min earlier. For tidal currents, see East Branch, 0.2 mile above entrance.
Predictions are based on Charleston, Cooper River Entrance.
