About the tides at Pimlico
Pimlico has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. The mean range is small, about 1.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most South Carolina stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.1 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.4 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 0.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.3 ft on September 30, and the lowest is −1.3 ft on January 23.
Pimlico is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Charleston, Cooper River Entrance: highs come about 199 min and lows about 233 min later than there.
