About the tides at Steep Brook
Steep Brook has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The average range is about 4.5 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 4.9 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 10, with a range of 5.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 4.1 ft.
Steep Brook is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Newport: highs come about 26 min and lows about 5 min later than there.
