About the tides at Upper Matecumbe Key

Upper Matecumbe Key has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Miami Beach, Government Cut. Water here rises and falls only about 2.0 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.3 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.0 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −0.9 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Miami Beach, Government Cut, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Little Basin, 0.5 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 15 m later. For tidal currents, see Long Key, drawbridge east of.

Predictions are based on Miami Beach, Government Cut.
