About the tides at Waltz Key

Waltz Key has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. Water here rises and falls only about 1.3 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.8 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.2 ft, comes on Monday, and the smallest, 1.2 ft, on October 20. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.6 ft on October 29 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 21.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Key West, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1974 to 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Snipe Keys, Middle Narrows, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 9 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Safe Habor Entrance, Stock Island.

Predictions are based on Key West.
