About the tides at Whitehaven

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The average range is about 2.2 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most Maryland stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 25, with a range of 3.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 1.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.5 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 23.

Whitehaven is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel: highs come about 386 min and lows about 406 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1989 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Great Shoals Light, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 26 min earlier.
