About the tides at Winterport

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Penobscot River, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. Winterport sees a mean range of about 11.8 ft. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most Maine stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 12.6 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 16.0 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 7.3 ft, on Monday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 14.8 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −2.1 ft on January 23.

Predictions for Winterport come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. NOAA measured the tide here from 1970 to 1984 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Bucksport, 5 mi away. For tidal currents, see Winterport, Penobscot River.
